AHEC - Health Care Exploration Programs

Day with Doctors
Day with Doctors is a one-day interactive program that offers high school students who have an interest in becoming a physician, an opportunity to experience doctors' daily activities and life on LSU Health's Shreveport campus.  Students learn diagnostic skills such as taking blood pressure, listening to heart sounds, taking a radial pulse, measuring respiratory rate and listening to breathing sounds. Participants have the opportunity to interact with medical students where they discover admission requirements for medical school and explore the life of a medical student.  

High School students currently enrolled as a junior or senior who have an interest in becoming a doctor may apply.  Students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.  The completed application must be postmarked no later than November 3, 2017.  Additional information and a copy of the application are attached below.  (Note - attachments must be viewed via Mrs. Miles' website)

Day with AHEC
Day with AHEC programs are designed to expand and enhance your knowledge regarding health career opportunities, admission requirements, costs, financial aid, and more.  High school juniors or seniors who have an interest in medical careers may apply.  Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA.

The completed application must be postmarked no later than November 3, 2017.  Additional information and a copy of the application are attached below.  (Note - attachments must be viewed via Mrs. Miles' website)

M*A*S*H 
M*A*S*H is a summer program held on the campuses of Louisiana Tech and BPCC which offers students interested in health careers an opportunity to learn how the basic sciences taught in high school relate to medical theories, diagnosis, careers and treatments through lab exercises and lectures.  Students are expected to study, take tests, and perform at their highest academic level.  Students who successfully complete the program will earn college credit.

Eligibility Requirements - 3.0 GPA or higher, at least a 19 ACT composite score, completed biology, physics, or chemistry classes, and prior participation in an AHEC sponsored program (AHEC of a Summer, Day with Doctors, or Day with AHEC)
